Requirements

1.Construct a Web page for the course and email the URL to me. Your web page will be included in an on-line list of student web pages for the course.
Your web page should be professional looking and include:

  1. Your name
  2. A mailto link and an optional picture
  3. Somewhere near the top of the page, include your definition of computer security
  4. Provide links to at least three sites where you have found useful information about computer security

2.Identify three of the security mechanisms or precautions you knowingly use on your personal computer if you have one (or work computer). You can email these along with the answers to the questions below.

3. Find the answers to the following security trivia quesions:
Send me an E-mail with the answers and, include your name at the top of the email. Please include the string: "CSCD434-Assignment1" in the Subject Line.

  1. Define what CERT means in general. What are the main CERTS in the US what is their task? Provide URL's to these sites.
  2. When we talk about "critical infrastructure protection", what specifically are the areas of critical infrastructure? (hint: transportation is one)
  3. Define what this term means, "Center of Acacemic Excellence in Information Assurance (CAEIA)".
    What is the closest CAEIA to EWU?
  4. Name two of the better known hacker groups and what is their claim to fame?
  5. Tell me what TRIPWIRE is, who wrote it, and why.
  6. What is DDoS?
  7. Explain what a rootkit does.
  8. What is Defcon? Hint. Something to do with hackers.
  9. List a recent exploit that has been in the news or on Slashdot.
